Thanks for trying out Confect!

This article will take you step by step through setting up your account from start to finish, and show you everything you need to know, including useful inspiration.

Before diving into Confect, you need to upload your data source and wait for your products to load. You can check if your products are ready inside "Settings > Products".

Let's get started.

Summary:
1. Make your first design
2. Create a couple design variations
3. Set up your Confect catalog
4. Connect your custom designs to Meta
5. Use your designs in the Ads Manager
6. Test the performance improvement

Make your first design

The first step on your journey to custom Catalog Ads is opening the "Designs" tab and starting to create a template.

There is no need to rush with this step (Your free trial only starts once you activate it. You can spend however long you'd like preparing the templates.)

Take your time to get used to the design editor, and reflect on what type of design you want to use.

The first design tends to be "like the first pancake" - it'll only get better. 🙌

Create design variations

Now that you got some experience creating designs for Catalog Ads, it's time to create a few design options.

Just like with normal ads, creative variety is the key to success!

The more designs you create and try, the better chances of finding one that exceeds all expectations.

We recommend starting out with at least 2-3 Confect designs. This provides a nice variety, while still being manageable to execute.

Set up your Confect catalog

⬇️ HOW TO DO THIS ⬇️

Make a Confect catalog for Meta

Change the design based on rules (optional)

Now, armed with a couple of on-brand designs, you can start to send and use them inside Meta.

To do this, you will have to head to the "Catalogs" tab, and create a Meta catalog.

After choosing the first design, click "Add variant" to add all the designs you'd like to try and compare.

If you'd like, you can also add design rules at this stage. Design rules allow you to change which products get which design based on product information (i.e., to give discounted items, or products from a certain category a different template).

Useful tip 💡
If you don't want to affect your existing catalog ads, set the first design to a blank template (including only the product layer).

Connect your designs to Meta

Connect your catalog to Meta

Now is the time to head to Settings > Billing, and start your free trial!

It may take some time to load all your products and remove backgrounds (you can see when all products have been loaded inside Settings > Products).

Once you're ready, you can go to the Meta catalog in Confect.

Here, you will be prompted with two options:

  • I'm not using Shopify (there is a URL in your Commerce Manager, that you'll replace)

  • I'm using Shopify (there is a Shopify integration in your Commerce Manager, and you'll add a "Supplementary feed")

Simply follow the guide that appears when clicking on either option, or read the guide in this section for more details.

Use your designs in ads

⬇️ HOW TO DO THIS ⬇️

Use multiple design variants on Facebook

This is where you experience the power of Confect.

After giving Meta some time to load and process all of the images, you'll see a "Confect options" dropdown appear in the Ads Manager - this is where you can choose which design to use in a specific ad.

Requirements:

  • The ad needs to be published (click "Publish" or "Discard draft" in the bottom right corner)
  • Advantage+ creative options need to be turned off in the ad
  • The variants must be loaded into the Meta Commerce Manager

Important ⚠️
Ensure that you have the Confect Chrome plugin installed and your Meta Business Manager integration connected.

Test the performance improvement

⬇️ HOW TO DO THIS ⬇️

A/B test Catalog Ads in Facebook

As with any new tool, it's important to test what the performance improvement is, as well as seeing which one of your designs drives the highest performance.

See the guide above to read how to set up a reliable A/B test for your Catalog Ads.

Once you complete the test and find your winning design, take note of the learnings - it's a good idea to apply them in all your future designs.

We look forward to having you on board! 🙌

Important ⚠️
We highly recommend following the A/B guide to the detail. Setting up the test in a different way will likely lead to the introduction of biases and other influences that will cause skewed and non-reliable results.
