Create a product-level video template

In this article, we’ll provide the fundamentals for understanding and using the Confect video editor to its maximum capacity.

This guide focuses on the basics of working with the timeline and layers while creating videos. If you’re instead looking to add intro and outro effects to your layers, click here.

There are two ways to create a video design in Confect:

• Using the product image and animating elements

• Using videos of your products, if they are in your data source (advanced)

Note that product-level video is still a BETA function in Confect - contact us to request access.

Switch to the video editor layout

You can duplicate and turn any of your existing designs into a video or create a new template.

After going to the design editor, you will see a toggle in the bottom left to switch between image and video editing.

The canvas area's functionality remains unchanged. The main difference is that a timeline has been added, and the layer overview has been moved to the bottom left instead of the top left.

Use the timeline

Similar to the image-style editor, the layers on top will cover the layers on the bottom. You will still have all the editing options for layers as you did when creating images.

If you need to add layers, click on the icons in the bottom left.

If you’ve started with an existing design (what we recommend), you can drag the edges of each layer to determine its duration. We recommend a total video length of 6-12 seconds.

You might, for example, want the product to appear first, followed by the name and then logo.

Add intro and outro effects

To prevent the elements from just appearing, you can apply effects such as letting them slide to the side, fade, spin, and so on.

You do so by clicking on the layer and clicking either the intro or outro effect icon in the popup.

Preview your video

Click “Preview” in the top right to preview your video template.

Note that you will only see one product being previewed—this is for loading speed purposes. Click the Shuffle icon at the top right to see a different product.

Advanced: Use a product video

If you’ve managed to send product videos into Confect via your data source, you can also use these in your template.

A video is added in the same way as an additional image - by using a shape and selecting “Video 1” in the “Fill type”.

This will not play as you move on the timeline, but you will need to click “Preview” to see it played.
